Through discussion, practice and "experiential anatomy", SmartYoga workshops will attempt to explain the intelligent and conscious use of the body during a yoga practice to both prevent and heal dysfunctions and injuries. Jesse's scientific approach to yoga provides students with a straightforward explanation of how their body can work during their yoga practice. Introduction to SmartYoga: Setting the Foundation of an Intelligent and Safe Yoga PracticeThis workshop serves as an introduction to the philosophy and structured systems of SmartYoga. Combining both theory and practice, it will provide students with an understanding of 'how' and 'why' yoga postures are meant to work so that they may take their practice from potentially dangerous contortion and turn it into a profound tool for healing and transforming the human body.
Yoga and the 'Low Back'The area of the body commonly referred to as the "lower back" is a broad region that can include the strucures of the lumbar spine, the sacro-iliac joints and hips. Not surprisingly, due to its complexity and importance as the structural "core" of the body it is often compromised and challenged in the practice of ashtanga/vinyasa/power yoga. Through discussion and "experiential anatomy", this workshop will attempt to explain the intelligent and conscious use of the "lower back" during yoga practice to both prevent and heal disfunctions and injuries.
Yoga and the 'Knee'This workshop is a must for anyone who is dealing with knee troubles, whether they be past or current issues. The knee is one the most simple, yet commonly injured joints in the human body. The powerful practice of ashtanga/vinyasa/power yoga and its application to the "western body" places an especially intense set of challenges on this delicate, hinge-like joint. Through discussion, practice and "experiential anatomy", this workshop will attempt to explain the intelligent and conscious use of the knee and it's surrounding structures to both prevent and heal knee related injuries.
Yoga and the 'Hip'The hip or acetabulofemoral joint is at once the most powerful and potentially mobile joint in the human body, relying on a fine balance of strength and flexibility for proper support and function. A failure in the muscular balance and mobility of the hip is often the underlying cause of not only hip pain, but also lower back pain and knee injuries. The practice of Yoga places a great emphasis on both ‘opening’ and strengthening the hip. But what exactly does this mean and how do we do it? Through discussion, practice and "experiential anatomy", this workshop will explain the intelligent and conscious use of the hip and the way in which yoga postures have been designed to heal, strengthen and mobilize this important joint.
